W00t has been chosen as Merriam-Webster's Word of the Year for 2007. Facebook was actually the runner up for Word of the Year.
Merriam-Webster's president, John Morse, said "w00t" was an ideal choice for the word of the year, because it blends whimsy and new technology.
So what does W00t stand for?
According to the Wikipedia, the origin of the word is disputed. Some say it's an acronym for "We own other team"; while say it comes from players of D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) and is short for "Wow, Loot".
In the end it doesn't matter much.
But it's cool to see a hybrid word of letters and numbers actually become a "real word".
Ok, here's the definition of W00t, th word of the year 2007:
1. w00t (interjection)
expressing joy (it could be after a triumph, or for no reason at all); similar in use to the word "yay"
w00t! I won the contest!
